What is your position at Piper Communications and describe your role?
I’m the President of Piper Communications. I founded the firm in 2008 to help mission-driven organizations and businesses in the advanced energy and technology sectors tell their stories and achieve meaningful impact. In my role, I set the strategic direction for our firm, work closely with our clients to develop and execute communications strategies that align with their goals, and lead an incredible team that delivers results every day. I’m also deeply involved in business development and forging strong partnerships across the industries we serve to build community.
your favorite part about working at Piper Communications?
My favorite part is seeing our clients succeed—and knowing that we helped play a role in their growth and impact. We work with some of the most innovative organizations and leaders in the country, and it’s incredibly rewarding to use communications as a tool to amplify their missions. I also love seeing our team members grow, take ownership of their work, and bring creative ideas to life.
Who or what inspires you in your work and why?
I’m inspired by people and organizations who are willing to tackle big, complex challenges—especially in the energy and innovation space. Whether it’s advanced energy, entrepreneurship, or strengthening regional economies, the work our clients do is shaping the future. That kind of bold, purpose-driven leadership is what keeps me motivated every single day.
What unique skills or perspectives do you bring to your role?
My experience as an NCAA Division I distance swimmer at the University of Tennessee taught me discipline, perseverance, and how to stay focused on long-term goals—skills that I bring to my work every day. Competitive swimming demands both individual accountability and the ability to thrive as part of a team, and that mindset shapes how I lead Piper Communications. I’m committed to strategy, consistency, and continuous improvement, while also recognizing that the best results come from collaboration. Being both an athlete and an entrepreneur has given me a drive to compete, innovate, and deliver meaningful outcomes for our clients.
In your opinion, what makes the culture at Piper Communications stand out?
Our culture is built around collaboration, trust, and a deep commitment to making a difference. We’re passionate about the work we do and the impact it has. We believe in supporting each other (outside of work and in the office), pushing creative boundaries, and always keeping our clients’ missions at the center of everything we do.
