By Cortney Piper, President
The past year at Piper Communications has been one of the most memorable in the firm’s history. As the holiday season approaches, I would like to thank our key partners and clients for choosing to work with us, and share a few highlights from 2024.
Looking Back on 2024:
This year, we had the privilege of working on projects for nearly 20 clients across all sectors of the advanced energy industry.
At Piper Communications, one of our core values is being a trusted partner to our clients. In 2024, we celebrated several milestones, including:
- 12 years of the Tennessee Advanced Energy Business Council
- 11 years with the Innov865 Alliance
- Eight years with Oak Ridge National Lab
- Nine years with the University of Tennessee Research Foundation
- Six years with Explore Oak Ridge
- Five years with Wärtsilä and Three Roots Capital
- Two years with RegScale, Trillium Renewable Chemicals, IACMI – The Composites Institute, Chroma Energy Group and the University of Tennessee Baker School of Public Policy and Public Affairs
- One year with TEAM TN
This year, we welcomed several new clients, including Southeast Nuclear Advisory Council, CDVCA’s National Unlock Capital Program, the Southeast Sustainability Directors Network, and the National Association of Wholesaler-Distributors. We are grateful they chose us and we look forward to growing these partnerships in 2025 and beyond.
We successfully launched the Piper Communications rebrand, positioning ourselves as the recognized leader in clean energy and technology communications. Anyone who has been through a rebrand knows it can be a long, in-depth process to find the right fit. I want to especially thank our team and The Thought Bureau for all of their hard work on this effort, which they took on in addition to their client work.
In July, we welcomed Peyton Mills as our Project Specialist to tackle our ever-growing project list, bringing our team headcount to 13. Additionally, we welcomed Brittany Crocker, Media Relations, Engagement and Content Manager, back from an overseas mobilization with the U.S. Navy Reserve. Brittany recently completed her tour as the Public Affairs Director at Camp Lemonnier in Djibouti.
At Piper Communications, we are a results-driven team focused on getting the outcomes our clients deserve. Period. In 2024, we accomplished a lot. I’m excited to share this glimpse of our work in public relations, branding and marketing, events, and strategic partnerships:
Public Relations
Piper is continuing to stand out as the industry’s go-to public relations partner in clean energy and technology. This year, we:

- Pitched and placed 530 pieces of earned media coverage, resulting in 68M estimated views and 10.2K social engagements
Branding & Marketing
Piper excels in helping clients launch, refresh, or maintain their brands and marketing strategies. In 2024, we expanded our digital marketing efforts. Across all client work, we:

Event Management
Piper has a long history of planning, promoting and executing high-impact events for our clients. From full-day conferences to educational webinars, I’m proud to say we:
- Supported or planned 23 events with 2.3K+ registrants
Strategic Partnerships
Piper has a solid track record in forming and operating successful, strategic partnerships that advance community-driven goals. This year, we were fortunate to play a key role in helping these coalitions advance the clean energy and technology industry:
Tennessee Advanced Energy Business Council:
- Released the fourth “Tennessee Advanced Energy Economic Impact Report” in partnership with the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, Tennessee Valley Authority, and the University of Tennessee Baker School of Public Policy and Public Affairs
- This report serves as a rallying point for our state’s government, business, and community leaders to collaborate, and double down on what drives our state’s economy.
- Welcomed 15 new members to the Tennessee Advanced Energy Business Council.
- The Energy Network, run in partnership with Launch Tennessee, served 31 companies that raised $49M in total capital and created/retained 225 jobs.
TEAM TN:
- Launched and developed Tennessee’s first-of-its-kind coalition, uniting more than 250 stakeholders around a shared vision to build a thriving advanced mobility ecosystem across the state.
Innov865 Alliance:
- Continued to develop, support and promote East Tennessee as a great place for entrepreneurs to start and grow businesses through the Innov865 Alliance’s collaborative efforts that increase the visibility of our region’s entrepreneurs.
Reflecting on 2024, I’m proud of the impact we’ve made in our community, state and country. I am grateful for the opportunities our clients give us everyday to amplify their stories and be a part of leading, breakthrough initiatives. Of course, our dedicated, resilient and hard working Piper Communications team is at the center of our success. I appreciate every one of them–their passion, enthusiasm and unique talents–and look forward to what we can accomplish together in 2025!
